Installation Method of Ssangyong Clutch Pressure Plate
I. Installation Preparation
(1) Vehicle and Safety
(2) Tools and Parts
| Category | Specific Items |
|---|---|
| Basic Tools | Socket wrench, torque wrench, screwdriver, snap ring pliers, crowbar, copper hammer |
| Special Tools | Clutch centering tool (to ensure coaxiality of driven disc and flywheel), flywheel holding tool, pressure plate installation guide tool |
| Parts and Consumables | Clutch pressure plate assembly suitable for Ssangyong models, driven disc, release bearing, pilot bearing, bolts (new bolts required for some models), cleaning solvent, lubricating grease (e.g., high-temperature bearing grease, spline grease) |
(3) Parts Inspection
II. Removal of Old Pressure Plate
Transmission Removal: Disconnect the negative battery terminal, drain the transmission fluid, remove connecting components such as drive shafts, half shafts, shift mechanisms, and clutch slave cylinders, then detach the bolts connecting the transmission to the engine. Lift the transmission smoothly away, taking care to protect the input shaft and locating pins.
Marking and Removing Pressure Plate: Mark the alignment between the pressure plate and flywheel for proper reinstallation. Use a socket wrench to gradually loosen the pressure plate fixing bolts in a diagonal sequence, then remove the pressure plate and driven disc.
Cleaning and Inspecting Flywheel: Clean the flywheel end face of oil, rust, and wear debris; check for warpage, grooves, and cracks. Use a flatness tester for inspection—if warpage exceeds the limit, repair or replace the flywheel. Ensure the flywheel locating pins are intact and the pilot bearing rotates flexibly; replace if necessary.
III. Installation of New Pressure Plate
Prepare Installation Surfaces: Thoroughly clean the flywheel end face and pressure plate mounting surface to ensure no oil or impurities remain; keep the locating pin holes clean and unobstructed.
Install Pilot Bearing and Release Bearing: Apply an appropriate amount of lubricating grease to the pilot bearing and press it into the flywheel center bore. Install the release bearing onto the release fork, ensuring it is seated correctly and moves freely.
Install and Center Driven Disc: Apply a small amount of spline grease to the driven disc spline hub, place the driven disc on the flywheel, paying attention to orientation (usually marked with "towards engine" or "towards transmission"). Insert the clutch centering tool into the driven disc spline hub and flywheel pilot bearing to ensure coaxiality of the driven disc and flywheel.
Install Pressure Plate and Pre-tighten Bolts: Align the pressure plate with the flywheel locating pins and assembly marks, place it gently on the driven disc, insert the pressure plate fixing bolts, and initially tighten them by hand in a diagonal sequence to ensure the pressure plate fits flatly.
Tighten Bolts to Specified Torque: Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts in 2–3 stages with diagonal cross sequence to the manufacturer’s specified torque (the torque for pressure plate bolts of common Ssangyong models is generally 20–25N·m; refer to the vehicle service manual for exact values), preventing pressure plate warpage.
Remove Centering Tool: After fully tightening the bolts, gently extract the clutch centering tool.
Inspect Release Mechanism: Manually move the pressure plate release fingers to check for uniform release stroke without jamming; ensure the release bearing makes proper contact with the release fingers.
IV. Transmission Installation and Subsequent Operations
Transmission Lifting: Clean the transmission input shaft splines and apply a small amount of lubricating grease. Align the transmission input shaft with the driven disc spline hub, push the transmission forward slowly to ensure alignment of locating pins and bolt holes, avoiding impact on the pressure plate and driven disc.
Tighten Transmission Bolts: Tighten the bolts connecting the transmission to the engine in 2–3 stages with diagonal sequence to the specified torque.
Reconnect Accessories: Reattach components such as drive shafts, half shafts, shift mechanisms, clutch slave cylinders, and transmission fluid lines in sequence; add the specified type and volume of transmission fluid.
Clutch Bleeding and Adjustment: For hydraulic clutches, bleed the clutch system completely to remove air, ensuring normal pedal travel and thorough disengagement. Adjust the clutch pedal free travel to meet the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications (generally 15–20mm).
Key Precautions for Installation of Ssangyong Clutch Pressure Plate
I. Core Preparation Precautions Before Installation
Vehicle Safety Protection
Parts and Tool Calibration
Parts Condition Inspection
The release bearing should rotate without jamming or abnormal noise, and its seal must be intact. It is strictly forbidden to use aged or under-lubricated release bearings. The flatness error of the flywheel end face should be ≤0.1mm. If the limit is exceeded, the flywheel needs to be repaired by lathe processing or replaced; otherwise, it will cause uneven stress on the pressure plate and clutch shudder.
