Pre - installation Preparation
Vehicle and Environment Preparation
Park the vehicle on a flat surface, lift it to a safe height using a lift that meets load - bearing standards. Firmly engage the handbrake and place triangular chocks under the wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Remove the underbody shield and drain all the transmission lubricating oil. Disconnect the bleeder screw of the clutch master cylinder to release hydraulic pressure. Afterwards, disconnect the relevant wiring harnesses and connectors of the gearbox, then hoist and move the gearbox assembly away.
Component and Tool Preparation
Verify that the model of the new clutch kit is compatible. Inspect to ensure there are no cracks on the pressure plate, no damage to the driven plate, and no looseness in the torsion springs. Prepare tools including a torque wrench, a clutch centering tool, and a copper rod. For dry dual - clutches, additional new locating clips must be prepared. Meanwhile, get the suitable clutch fluid and transmission oil ready. When replacing the dry dual - clutch in Jetour models, note that the fixing bolts for the K2 cover assembly must be replaced with new ones and must not be reused.
Removal, Cleaning and Inspection of Old Components
Remove the fixing bolts of the old clutch cover and pressure plate, then take out the old pressure plate, driven plate and release bearing. Clean the contact surface of the flywheel with absolute ethanol to remove oil stains and impurities. Check the flatness of the flywheel; if warping or cracks are found, the flywheel should be ground and repaired or replaced. For dry dual - clutches, sequentially remove the thrust bearing locating clip and locating nut, take out the K1 and K2 cover assemblies as well as the corresponding driven plates and intermediate plate, and inspect each component for wear one by one.
Core Installation Steps
Installation of Conventional Manual Clutch
Apply a small amount of special grease only to the spline hub of the driven plate and the spline of the transmission input shaft. Be careful to avoid oil stains contaminating the friction surface.
Use a centering tool to position the driven plate and make sure it is installed in the correct direction. Then place the pressure plate and clutch cover assembly against the flywheel. After aligning the assembly marks, loosely tighten all the fixing bolts first, and then fasten them in batches in a diagonal sequence.
Install the release bearing and release fork, ensuring that the contact surface between the release bearing and the diaphragm spring fits evenly. Then reinstall the boot of the release fork and the slave cylinder, and tighten the fixing bolts of the slave cylinder in accordance with specifications.
Installation of Jetour Dry Dual - Clutch
When installing the K2 cover assembly, align its groove with the arc edge of the inner circle of the gearbox. After aligning the threaded holes, tighten the new fixing bolts to a torque of 25Nm. Install the K2 driven plate, making sure the side marked "LATOMOTORE" faces the engine.
Align the notch on the edge of the clutch intermediate plate with the notch on the edge of the K2 cover assembly, so that the locating pins on its side engage accurately. Then install the K1 driven plate with the side of the protruding internal spline sleeve facing the transmission.
Align the notch of the K1 cover assembly with that of the intermediate plate, and tighten the fixing bolts to a torque of 25Nm in a staggered diagonal sequence. Afterwards, gently screw the thrust bearing by hand until the outer ring does not rotate along with the inner nut. Screw the inner nut in 10.5 turns, and then install the thrust bearing locating nut and the new locating clip.
Subsequent Reassembly and Commissioning
Reassembly of Gearbox and Pipes
Hoist the gearbox assembly back into place in the reverse order of removal. Reset components such as the drive shaft and universal joint, and reconnect the relevant wiring harnesses. Fill the transmission with the appropriate - specification lubricating oil and the clutch master cylinder with clutch fluid. Close the bleeder screw and repressurize the hydraulic system.
Component Matching and Clearance Adjustment
If the clutch actuator has been replaced, for some vehicle models, a dedicated diagnostic tool is required to complete the matching with the ECU. Adjust the free travel of the clutch pedal to ensure smooth disengagement and engagement. Check that the return spring of the release fork is installed in place without looseness or jamming.
Post - installation Inspection
Push the release fork when the vehicle is stationary to check if the clutch returns smoothly and inspect all joints for leaks. Start the vehicle and test the gear shifting, observing for any abnormal noise, slipping or jitter. If there is abnormal gear shifting in the dry dual - clutch, it is necessary to check the fit between the notches of each component and the locating pins. If slipping occurs in the conventional manual clutch, investigate whether the bolt torque meets the standard or if the friction surface is contaminated with oil stains.
Key Precautions for Chery Clutch Kit Installation
I. General Safety Operation Specifications
1. Vehicle Securing and Protection
Use a calibrated, qualified hoist to lift the vehicle. Align the support points with the designated reinforced chassis positions specified for Chery models (e.g., marked on the side rails of the frame for Tiggo series). Never perform operations with only a jack for support. Firmly engage the handbrake and shift into 1st gear (manual transmission) or P (Park) for hybrid models. Place triangular chocks in front of and behind the wheels to achieve double anti-roll protection.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal before operation and wait 5 minutes to discharge residual capacitor power, avoiding short circuits when removing electrical components. Wear non-slip gloves, safety goggles, and an oil-resistant apron to prevent component scratches and hydraulic oil splashes. Keep the work area well-ventilated and dry, and away from ignition sources (to avoid fire risks from flammable clutch/transmission oil).
