Installation Method for the 2.3T 14V Generator of Dadao
I. Pre-installation Preparation
Tool and Material Preparation
Special Tools: Socket wrenches (10mm, 12mm, 14mm), torque wrench (range: 0–100N·m), belt tension gauge, generator positioning pin.
Consumables: Generator fixing bolts (OE No.: XXX-10021), lock nuts (OE No.: XXX-10022), generator belt (OE No.: XXX-10251), thread locking adhesive (Loctite 243 is recommended).
Auxiliary Tools: Insulating gloves, multimeter, cleaning cloths.
Parts Inspection
Inspect the rectifier, rotor and stator of the new generator for no damage, the wiring terminals for no oxidation, and the bearing for smooth rotation without abnormal noise.
Inspect the mounting surface of the generator bracket on the engine side for no deformation, the threads for no slipping, and the surface of the pulley for no wear.
II. Installation Steps (Perform in Sequence)
Initial Positioning of the Generator
Place the generator on the mounting position of the bracket on the engine side, insert the two main fixing bolts (OE No.: XXX-10021), and manually screw them in 3–4 turns without fully tightening to reserve adjustment allowance.
Install the bottom positioning pin of the generator to ensure that the generator fits closely with the bracket without gaps.
Installation of the Generator Belt
According to the original factory belt routing diagram (refer to the illustration in the JMC Dadao Maintenance Manual), sequentially fit the belt onto the crankshaft pulley, generator pulley and tensioner pulley.
Use a special tool to rotate the tensioner to adjust the belt tension to the standard value: 25–30N (measurable with a belt tension gauge), then fasten the tensioner lock nut.
Tightening of Fixing Bolts
Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts in the sequence of main bolts first, then positioning bolts:
Torque for main fixing bolts: 45±5N·m; apply thread locking adhesive before tightening.
Torque for bottom positioning bolts: 35±5N·m.
After tightening, check that the generator has no looseness or displacement, and the pulley rotates without jamming.
Connection of Electrical Circuits
Connect the positive output cable (thick red cable) of the generator to the generator B+ terminal, tighten the terminal nut with a torque value of 12±2N·m, and install a flat washer and a spring washer to prevent loosening.
Connect the field wire (thin wire) to the generator D+ terminal, and ensure that the plug buckle is fully locked in place.
Connect the ground wire to the dedicated grounding point on the generator housing with a torque value of 10±2N·m to ensure good grounding.
Installation of Dust Cover and Accessories
Install the top dust cover of the generator and tighten the fixing buckles.
Check the surrounding pipelines and wire harnesses to ensure that there is no interference with the generator, with a minimum clearance of 10mm reserved.
III. Commissioning After Installation
Startup Test
Start the engine and run it at idle speed for 5 minutes; observe that the generator operates without abnormal noise or vibration, and the belt runs without slipping or deviation.
Use a multimeter to measure the output voltage of the generator: 13.8–14.5V at idle speed, which meets the standard of a 14V generator.
Load Test
Turn on high-power electrical equipment such as vehicle headlights and air conditioners; the measured voltage shall remain within 13.5–14.2V without obvious voltage drop.
After turning off the engine, check that the belt tension remains unchanged and all bolts are free from loosening.
Precautions for Installation of the 2.3T 14V Generator of JMC Dadao
I. Safety Operation Precautions
Power-off Operation
Before installation, disconnect the negative cable of the vehicle battery and wait for more than 5 minutes to ensure that the circuit capacitor is fully discharged, so as to prevent electric shock or component burnout caused by short circuit.
It is forbidden to plug or unplug the generator wiring harness connector when the power is on, to avoid damaging the voltage regulator.
Protection Requirements
Wear insulating gloves and goggles to prevent coolant and engine oil from splashing into the generator interior, and avoid hand scratches caused by bolt slipping.
Keep away from rotating components such as fans and pulleys during operation. It is strictly prohibited to touch the generator when the engine is running.
Tool Specifications
A torque wrench must be used to control the bolt tightening torque. Never tighten bolts violently with an extension rod, so as to prevent thread slipping of the bracket or cracking of the generator housing.
Special tensioner tools shall be adopted for belt disassembly and assembly. Do not pry the generator housing with a crowbar to adjust the belt tension.
II. Installation Details Precautions
Bolt Tightening Requirements
Apply Loctite 243 medium-strength thread-locking adhesive to the main fixing bolts and positioning bolts. Tighten the bolts in the sequence of "pre-tightening first, then diagonal tightening", and strictly follow the torque standards (main bolts: 45±5N·m; positioning bolts: 35±5N·m).
Flat washers and spring washers must be installed on the nuts of electrical terminals, with the tightening torque controlled at 12±2N·m. Loose fastening will easily cause heating and burnout, while over-tightening will damage the threads of the terminals.
Belt Installation and Tension Control
The belt routing must strictly follow the original factory diagram. Reverse installation or incorrect routing around the pulleys is prohibited, otherwise it will cause generator reversal and power generation failure.
The belt tension shall be controlled within the range of 25–30N, which can be measured by a belt tension gauge. Excessive tension will aggravate bearing wear, while insufficient tension will lead to belt slipping and abnormal noise.
After installation, manually rotate the pulley to ensure that the belt runs without deviation or edge gnawing.
Wiring Connection Requirements
The positive output cable (B+ terminal) must be firmly connected, and the circuit shall be equipped with a fuse of original factory specification (matching the OE number). It is forbidden to arbitrarily increase or reduce the wire gauge without authorization.
Confirm that the buckle of the field wire (D+ terminal) connector is fully locked, to prevent power generation interruption caused by connector loosening during vehicle operation.
The ground wire shall be connected to the dedicated grounding point on the generator housing. Never ground it to other metal components, so as to avoid voltage fluctuation caused by poor grounding.
Clearance Inspection
III. Fault Prevention and Commissioning Precautions
Key Points of Post-installation Testing
During idle speed test, use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the B+ terminal; the standard value is 13.8–14.5V. When high-power electrical equipment such as headlights and air conditioners are turned on, the voltage shall not be lower than 13.5V. If not, check the belt tension or voltage regulator.
During operation, monitor the generator for no "sizzling" abnormal noise (indicating bearing failure), no slipping squeal (indicating insufficient belt tension) and no abnormal temperature rise of the housing.
