Installation Method of Chery 12V Generator
- Preparation Work:
Tool Preparation: Prepare tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and sockets.
Vehicle Power Off: Turn off the vehicle engine and disconnect the negative cable of the storage battery to avoid electric shock and other hazards during installation.
- Removing the Old Generator:
Loosen the Belt Tensioner: Use an appropriate tool to loosen the belt tensioner and remove the belt from the generator pulley.
Disconnect Electrical Connections: Locate the wire connectors on the generator, carefully pull them out, and mark the position of each connector for correct reconnection later.
Remove Fixing Screws: Use a wrench or socket to loosen and remove the generator's fixing screws, including the upper and lower fastening bolts, then take out the old generator.
- Cleaning the Installation Position: Use cleaning tools to carefully remove dust, oil stains, and debris from the installation position, ensuring the surface is clean and tidy to provide a good foundation for the installation of the new generator.
- Installing the New Generator:
Place the Generator: Carefully place the new generator in the installation position, initially fix it with screws but do not fully tighten them to facilitate subsequent position adjustment.
Install Components Such as the Pulley: Install the pulley, fan, and woodruff key on the rotor shaft, then tighten the pulley fixing nut.
- Connecting Electrical Circuits:
Connect Positive and Negative Wires: Connect the generator's negative wire (usually black) to the negative terminal of the storage battery, and the positive wire (usually red) to the positive terminal of the storage battery.
Connect Other Wires: According to the previously marked positions, correctly plug back the other wire connectors of the generator to ensure a firm connection and avoid poor contact caused by looseness. If the generator is equipped with an excitation wire (F), indicator light wire (L), etc., connect them to the corresponding positions according to specific conditions.
- Installing the Drive Belt: Accurately put the belt on the generator pulley, and adjust the belt tensioner to ensure moderate belt tension. Excessively tight tension may cause premature belt wear, while excessively loose tension may lead to belt slipping and affect power generation efficiency.
- Inspecting and Tightening Screws: Carefully check if the generator is in the correct position and if the belt tension is appropriate. After confirmation, fully tighten the generator's fixing bolts.
- Restoring Power: Reconnect the negative cable of the storage battery.
- Testing the Generator: Start the vehicle and check if the generator works normally, including whether the charging indicator light turns off and whether the voltage is normal.
Precautions for Installation of Chery 12V Generator
I. Safety Operation Specifications
Ensure the vehicle is turned off and the negative cable of the storage battery is disconnected throughout the installation process. Live operation is strictly prohibited to prevent short circuits or electric shock risks.
Wear insulating gloves and safety goggles during operation. Avoid touching rotating parts or live terminals with hands to prevent mechanical injuries or electrical accidents.
Do not install in humid, flammable or explosive environments. Ensure the operation area is well-ventilated and dry, away from flammable substances such as gasoline and oil stains.
II. Installation Precision Requirements
Tighten the generator fixing bolts to the specified torque (usually 15-25N・m, subject to the vehicle manual) to prevent loosening due to vibration during operation.
Electrical circuits must be connected to the correct interfaces. The positive and negative poles cannot be reversed. The excitation wire (F), indicator light wire (L), etc., must be accurately connected according to the marks. Incorrect connection may burn the generator or the vehicle's electrical system.
The tension of the drive belt should be adjusted to a moderate level. Press the middle of the belt (applying 5-10kg force), and the sinking amount should be controlled at 10-15mm to avoid excessive or insufficient tension affecting operation.
III. Equipment Protection Key Points
Avoid colliding with the generator shell and internal components during installation to prevent damage to core elements such as the stator, rotor, and rectifier.
Do not use a high-pressure water gun to directly wash when cleaning the installation position to avoid water entering the generator and causing short circuits.
When installing components such as the pulley and fan, ensure the woodruff key is properly installed and the pulley fixing nut is tightened to prevent parts from falling off during operation.
IV. Subsequent Use and Maintenance Tips
When starting the vehicle for the first time after installation, observe the generator's operating status to confirm that the charging indicator light turns off normally and there is no abnormal noise or vibration.
Record the installation date and wiring method to facilitate subsequent maintenance and troubleshooting.
Regularly check the tightness of the generator fixing bolts, the wear status of the belt, and the stability of the line connection. It is recommended to conduct an inspection every 3 months.
