Pre-installation Preparation
After turning off the vehicle engine, let it stand for a period of time, then disconnect the negative battery cable to avoid short circuits that could damage components during installation. Note that some vehicle systems may require initialization after reconnecting the negative cable later, such as the steering angle neutral point memory.
Prepare suitable tools, including a socket wrench, torque wrench, special tool for belt tensioner, insulating gloves, etc. Verify that the new generator meets the 12V 130A specification, with no external damage, no oxidation on the terminals, and complete accessories.
If components such as the radiator assembly were removed during previous disassembly, ensure the installation area is free of debris and sufficient operating space is reserved.
Core Component Installation
- Position the Generator AssemblyPlace the 12V 130A generator accurately on the mounting bracket and align it with the bracket’s mounting holes. Distinguish between the two mounting types corresponding to different models:
Type A: First align the two bolts with the holes on the generator assembly bracket.
Type B: Align the bolts with their corresponding nuts.
- Secure the Generator Body
For Type A models: Tighten the two bolts that fasten the generator assembly bracket.
For Type B models: First secure the bolts and nuts corresponding to the bracket, then fix the generator assembly with two additional bolts. Simultaneously, install and tighten the bolts of the wire harness clamp bracket to prevent harness loosening.
It is recommended to use a torque wrench to verify and follow the manufacturer’s calibrated torque (typically 25-35N·m, refer to the specific vehicle service manual for details) to avoid bracket damage from over-tightening or vibration from under-tightening.
- Connect the Electrical Wiring
First, open the generator terminal cover, connect the wire harness to the B terminal, and secure it with the nut.
Next, fully insert the generator assembly connector (and the compressor electromagnetic clutch connector if applicable) until a "click" is heard to confirm locking. Secure the two wire harness clamps to prevent wire 晃动 and abrasion.
Ensure terminals are tight and no exposed metal parts have poor contact during wiring.
Auxiliary Component Assembly
- Install the Multi-ribbed BeltUse a belt tensioner tool to loosen the tensioner pulley, fit the belt into the generator pulley and power end pulley, and ensure the belt is fully seated in the pulley grooves. Release the tool after adjustment and check the belt tension: pressing the middle of the belt should result in a deflection of 1-2cm to prevent slipping or excessive bearing wear during operation.
- Reinstall Related Components
If the radiator assembly was removed, reinstall it at this stage.
If the coolant was drained, add the compatible coolant (e.g., Lexus Super Long-Life Coolant LLC) and check for leaks.
Finally, reinstall previously removed components such as the underguard.
Final Commissioning
Reconnect the negative battery cable and complete necessary system initialization as required by the vehicle model, such as resetting the rear door closing position and initializing the automatic headlight control system.
Start the vehicle and observe the generator’s operation: the charging indicator light should turn off normally with no abnormal noise. Use a multimeter to test the output voltage—12V generators typically have a normal operating voltage range of 13.5-14.5V—to confirm compatibility with the 130A rated output.
After running for a short period, turn off the engine and inspect the generator terminals, pulley, and other components for overheating, loosening, or leaks. The installation is complete if all conditions are normal.
I. Core Safety Operation Precautions (Top Priority)
1. Power and Circuit Safety
Before installation, disconnect the negative battery cable (most Lexus models use negative grounding) and wait 5-10 minutes for the on-board capacitors to discharge (to avoid short-circuit damage to precision electronic components). Never plug or unplug the generator wire harness connector while the power is on.
Before reconnecting the negative cable, ensure all electrical interfaces are fully inserted and securely fastened. Exposed wire harness terminals or contact with metal components is prohibited. Wear insulating gloves during operation to prevent tools from touching the generator’s B terminal (positive pole) and forming a short circuit with the vehicle body ground.
2. Personnel and Site Protection
The operating area must be clean and dry to prevent coolant or oil from contaminating the generator’s electrical interfaces or pulley. When removing/installing the multi-ribbed belt, never insert hands between the pulley and tensioner to avoid pinching.
If coolant filling or draining is involved, use coolant compatible with Lexus models (e.g., Super Long-Life Coolant LLC). Mixing coolants of different specifications is prohibited, as this may cause cooling system failures. Prevent fluid from splashing into the generator during filling.
II. Key Component Installation Precautions (Adapted to Lexus Model Characteristics)
1. Generator Fixation and Bracket Protection
Use only genuine-specification bolts (typically M8 or M10 high-strength bolts); non-standard bolts are strictly prohibited. Tighten bolts according to the manufacturer’s calibrated torque (generally 25-35N・m; refer to the specific vehicle service manual for details). Under-tightening may cause vibration and abnormal noise, while over-tightening may damage the bracket or generator housing.
Before installation, inspect the rubber bushings of the generator bracket. If aging or cracking is detected, replace them simultaneously (Lexus models have high requirements for vibration control; damaged bushings will affect belt life and power generation stability).
2. Multi-ribbed Belt Assembly and Tension Specifications
Use only genuine Lexus or compatible multi-ribbed belts (verify that the belt model matches the original vehicle, such as 6PK2300). Damaged, aging, or length-mismatched belts are prohibited, as they may reduce power generation efficiency or cause belt breakage.
Strictly control the tension: Press the middle of the belt (between the two pulleys) – the deflection should be 1-2cm, and the belt should rebound quickly when released. After installation, start the vehicle and check for no slipping noise (e.g., "squeaking"). If noise occurs, readjust the tension.
