Specific Installation Steps
Positioning and Placing the Starter
The starters of both models are mostly located at the junction of the engine and transmission, commonly on the right rear or left rear lower part of the engine.
Place the new starter stably in the installation position, align it with the bolt mounting holes on the engine block. Adjust the position carefully to avoid colliding with surrounding wiring harnesses and pipelines.
Securing the Starter Assembly
Chevrolet Sail: Use a 13mm socket to tighten the two upper and lower fixing screws of the starter. The tightening torque should be controlled between 18-30N・m to ensure the starter is free from looseness or wobble.
Chevrolet Cruze: Similarly, align with the mounting holes and screw in the fixing bolts. Referring to the general standard for the same series of models, the fixing bolt torque is recommended to be tightened to 37N・m to avoid vibration during operation due to insufficient torque.
Connecting Electrical Wiring
First, connect the excitation coil S terminal of the starter to the control wire connector, then fasten the nut of the B+ terminal (positive pole) power wire. For Sail, the torque for the S terminal nut is 3-5N・m, and for the ground wire nut is 10-15N・m. For Cruze, referring to the general standard, the torque for the B+ terminal wiring harness nut should be tightened to 12±2N・m to prevent poor contact or breakage of the wiring harness.
Arrange the wiring harness route neatly during connection. For Cruze, avoid interference between the wiring harness and the transmission counterweight. You can use electrical tape to bind the small wire to the main wire at 30mm from the S terminal small wire junction.

Startup Verification
Detailed Inspection
For Sail: Additionally complete the clock setting and power window learning.
For Cruze: If relevant pipelines were removed earlier, check for leaks and ensure the entire vehicle's electrical system is functioning normally.
Core Conclusion: When installing the 12V starter for Sail and Cruze, key focuses include power-off protection, torque standardization, wiring connection, and model compatibility to avoid short circuits, abnormal noise, or startup failures.
Safety Protection Precautions
Disconnect the negative battery cable first throughout the entire installation process. Never operate with power on to prevent electrical short circuits that could burn out electrical components or cause electric shock.
Avoid tools touching live parts such as the positive terminal and fuse box in the engine compartment during operation. Lay a protective cloth on the fender to prevent scratches to the vehicle body and pipelines.
When removing/installing the engine underguard, securely support the vehicle with a jack. Never work under an unfixed vehicle to avoid falling hazards.
Core Installation Operation Precautions
Model and Accessory Compatibility: Confirm that the new starter model and fixing bolt specifications are fully compatible with the vehicle. For Sail, verify that the starter power matches the engine displacement. For Cruze, check that the wiring harness connector interface is consistent—never force connection.
Strict Torque Control: For Sail, tighten the fixing bolts to 18-30N・m and the S terminal nut to 3-5N・m. For Cruze, tighten the fixing bolts to 37N・m and the B+ terminal wiring harness nut to 12±2N・m. Over-tightening may cause shell cracking, while under-tightening leads to vibration—calibrate with a torque wrench.
Standardized Wiring Connection: Connect the control wire (S terminal) first, then the power wire (B+ terminal). For Cruze, secure the wiring harness to avoid interference with the transmission counterweight; bind the small wire to the main wire with electrical tape 30mm from the S terminal junction if needed. For Sail, ensure good contact of the ground wire to prevent weak startup due to poor connection.
Avoid Component Damage: Do not strike the starter shell or gear end to prevent damage to internal coils and one-way clutches. Check the carbon brush wear before installation—replace if severely worn, and lightly polish the contact surface with fine sandpaper for cleaning.
Testing and Finalization Precautions
Before the first test, ensure the wiring harness is not tangled and connectors are fully locked, then reconnect the negative battery cable to avoid wire detachment due to pulling.
During startup testing: If the starter has no response, first check if the negative wire and S terminal connector are loose. If there is a "clicking" abnormal noise, inspect the meshing gap between the starter gear and flywheel ring gear—perform multiple tests only if there is no jamming.
For Sail: Complete clock setting and power window learning after installation. For Cruze: Check for pipeline leaks if relevant pipelines were removed. Remove the protective cloth and tools only after confirming all vehicle electrical systems are functioning normally.
