Mercedes-Benz Starter Installation Steps
Step Operation Content Key Details
1 Disconnect Power Disconnect the negative battery cable first to prevent electric shock and short circuits.
2 Lift Vehicle Use a jack or lift to raise the front of the vehicle and support it firmly with stands.
3 Remove Panels Remove the engine under panel and air filter; remove the intake manifold bracket if necessary for easier operation.
4 Locate Starter It is located on the clutch housing where the engine connects to the transmission, usually with 2 fixing bolts.
5 Remove Old Starter Unscrew the main power wire nut (12~13mm) and control wire plug, then remove the fixing bolts (E14 or 17mm) and take out the starter.
6 Clean and Inspect Clean oil stains and rust from the installation surface; check if the flywheel ring gear and starter gear are worn.
7 Install New Starter Align the position and insert it, first tighten the fixing bolts (according to torque: approximately 50~70 N・m), then connect the main power wire and control wire.
8 Restore Components Reinstall panels, air filter, etc., ensuring no parts are missing.
9 Connect Power Reconnect the negative battery cable.

Note during installation: • The main live wire is directly connected to the battery; power operation is strictly prohibited throughout the installation process. • Due to the oil heat exchanger blocking in some diesel vehicle models, the starter motor needs to be lifted out after raising the engine first. • Bolt specifications and positions may vary for different vehicle models (such as W124, SLK, GLC, etc.), it is recommended to refer to the corresponding repair manual."
